Baked Potato Canoes
My brother, Jake, and I like to make these potato canoes for breakfast, but they are also good for lunch and dinner. It's fun to try different seasonings.
will also need:
A sharp knife to cut the potatoes
A cutting board to cut the potatoes on
A bowl to put the oil in when coating the potatoes
A baking sheet
Parchment paper to line the baking sheet or Pam to spray on the sheet so the potatoes don't stick
Pot holders to take the hot pan out of the oven
4 medium potatoes
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1-2 teaspoons of your favorite seasoning salt (Jake and I like Salt and Spice or Barbecue Seasoning on these Potatoes)
How to Make Baked Potato Canoes:
Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under warm water. I like to use a
brush because it helps to get all the dirt off.
Have an adult help you to preheat the oven to 425°.
|2. Cut one of the potatoes in half lengthwise. Make sure an adult is there with you while you are using a knife.||3. Cut each of the halves in half lengthwise.||4. Then cut each of the pieces in half again lengthwise. You will get eight long pieces from each potato. Cut the other potatoes in eight pieces like you did the first one.|
Put the 1/4 cup vegetable oil in a bowl and coat each of the potato
pieces with the oil.
|6. When you have finished coating all of the potatoes and have put them on a baking sheet, you'll have to wipe your hands off because they will be greasy!||7. Sprinkle with your favorite seasoning. It's fun to sprinkle with the seasoning, but don't put too much on them or you'll have to start over! (See what happened to me when I put too much!)||8. Put the potatoes in the oven and let them cook for 15-25 minutes, or until they are crisp and brown. Have an adult help you take the potato canoes out of the oven. (Make sure you turn it off after you take them out.) Use a pancake turner to put the canoes on a plate and serve them immediately.|
|9. The first time I made these potato canoes, I put too much seasoning on them. They didn't taste very good!||10. These were yummy!|
